- “Don’t Expect a High-Volume dental Office. We Remain Small to Create a Personal Experience.”
Scaling & Root Planing
Scaling is a special type of cleaning we use to remove bacteria-filled plaque and tartar from below the gum line. Once this is done, root planing involves smoothing out and reshaping the rough surfaces of the tooth roots. This encourages faster healing and makes it more difficult for plaque to build up in the future.
Patients with periodontal disease will be put on a maintenance program where they’ll be advised to get checkups and cleanings every three to four months as opposed to the normal six. This allows our team to prevent any flare ups and keep a patient at optimal oral health.
Small pockets of bacteria can form along the gum line as gum disease becomes more advanced, and cleaning them manually is virtually impossible. So, we instead apply an antibiotic directly to the gums. There, it quickly dries, and then it slowly dissolves over the next few days, allowing the powerful medicine to reach even the deepest part of the pockets to kill the bacteria.
